From fibers to book’2019
HispanizArte and Centro de Artes do Papel organize the III International Workshop “From fibers to book”, which will take place in Mecina-Fondales (Granada, España) August 5-11, 2019.
The target of the course, as in the previous editions, is to go through the process of book construction starting from the raw material, in a few days devoted to the manufacture of craft paper and the various ways of working with it, in bookbinding and sheet decoration for different purposes, such as covers, fly leaves…
However, this year we have a lot of news:
In the first place, we have chosen for our course the small and quiet town of Mecina-Fondales, in the middle of Alpujarra. Our friend Víctor, who participated in the course of last summer in Montemor-o-velho (Portugal), proposed us to change this occasion of location and carry out the workshops in his hotel in Granada. A few months ago we visited it and found it a great option. Here you can see for yourselves: HOTEL DE MECINA-FONDALES.
Second, as some of you have shown interest, we are going to open a new core of content: basic book repair techniques. Each participant can bring your book, or we will provide one, so together we can see what would be the best option to repair and keep it, well, a few more years in the best possible conditions. We will learn what simple procedures we can do to extend the useful life of our damaged volumes and, almost more importantly, what we should not do in any case…
Another novelty this year will be the creative evenings. According to the experience of the two previous editions, both the participants in the course “From fibers to book” and their companions are restless and curious people who have much to share. Therefore, every night after dinner, some of those present may propose a mini-workshop or a small talk on a topic, so that the evening becomes exactly that, a time to share skills, knowledge and interests. Whoever encourages us can inform us at the time of making the reservation and we will organize it.
And, as in previous editions, in addition to learning and practicing interesting techniques, we will enjoy the delicious cuisine of the area and we will make a very special visit to the Alhambra seasoned with the verses of Federico García Lorca.
For the course to meet the expectations of all, the group cannot be very large, so if you have interest, hurry to reserve a place.
No previous knowledge of binding or any of the skills that will intervene in the course will be necessary. The small number of attendees will allow the activities developed in the different workshops to be adapted to the level and interests of all (within reason).
The minimum age to attend will be 15-16 years. If there are minors of that age interested, we ask you to make a particular consultation to firstname.lastname@example.org.
